The use of marijuana as medical treatment is not new news. But the recent studies have shown the use of CBD (or CBD vape oil) is interesting. This is one of the compounds of marijuana that does not create the intoxicating effect has shown promise for many diseases. The studies conducted have focused on specific diseases, illnesses or conditions from PSTD to life-threatening cancers. Though it has been long known this substance could be helpful in medical treatment the studies now show it may be far more helpful than earlier medical studies data.
CBD Biology
Marijuana has over 80 active cannabinoid chemicals and CBD does not produce the euphoria effect its studies have shown that it interacts with the receptors on cells in the brain and body. Studies show that there is evidence that the interaction between CBD and the brain may have important contributors to therapeutic effects. This result in some studies has proven it can be useful in treatment for some long-term medical conditions.
Medical Conditions CBD Maybe an Effective Treatment Element
Neuroprotective properties of CBD found in cell cultures during studies show it could be an effective treatment for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), stroke and Parkinson’s disease. In two recent studies, Sativex under the trade name Nabiximols containing approximately equal portions of CBD and THC shows an effective treatment for the spasticity found in MS patients and has been approved for use in most of Europe.
ALS patients according to Jacob Kaufman, MD of the Department of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania in a survey with 127 patients 102 had a good response rate. The favorable response was in the treatment of ALS symptoms, which is a disease that includes Lou Gehrig’s Disease. It was effective in appetite stimulation 75%, aiding with sleep 65%, relief of anxiety 80%, relief of depression 70% and muscle relaxation 60%.
Inhibiting breast cancer increase Sean D. McAllister Ph.D., a scientist at California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute in a study entitled Pathways Mediating the Effects of Cannabidiol on the Reduction of Breast Cancer Cell Proliferation, Invasion, and Metastasis. The study showed CBD has a low toxicity level and a good candidate to use in combination with other treatments and it showed CBD appeared to interact through a cellular system that controls the key of breast cancer cells.
In a study by Manuel Guzman Ph.D., professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Madrid Complutense University found CBD helped cancer patients. As an effective treatment in cancer patients, it alleviated nausea, pain, vomiting and stimulated appetite. The study also found the compounds helped to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in culture and animal models by modulating key cell signaling pathways.
In a 2000 study, the compound showed an effective treatment in the treatment of arthritis with anti-inflammatory benefits.
A study conducted in 2011 CBD was effective in the limbic and paralimbic areas of the brain making it an effective treatment to reduce anxiety.
In a 2013 study involving Crohn’s Disease CBD was found effective as support of anti-inflammatory of the digestive tract to control the inflammatory response caused by the disease.
