Finding a dog food that is healthy for your pet, yet not too expensive for your wallet, can be a challenge. This is especially true when you look at many of the top brands and the artificial ingredients they include in their foods while still selling them at top price.
That is one challenge we came across when we tried to choose a high quality food for our puppy.
Thankfully, Merrick dog food provides both exceptionally healthy food for your pet while making sure it is free of all preservatives and chemicals. That food is what we eventually chose.
A whole food dog food — Merrick produces food that is free of all preservatives and chemicals and with all ingredients derived from whole foods.
This means, when you serve your dog a plate of Merrick dog food, it is getting food made from sweet potatoes, potatoes, blueberries, salmon and flaxseed oils and, of course, high quality beef, pork and chicken. The nutritional content of this type of food is also high.
We felt this was extremely important when feeding a growing puppy as we wanted to be sure he had the best quality dog food right from the start.
Recipes are free from grains — While we did not know if our puppy had an allergy to grain or gluten, enough dogs do that we did not want to give him food with any grain in its ingredients.
Again, Merrick dog food was the best choice as their cans of Puppy Plate food are certified to be free of all grains and gluten.
Certified organic fruits and vegetables — Merrick dog food also contains organic fruits and vegetables and are certified as such.
We liked this aspect of feeding our dog Merrick food as we did not want to expose our six-month-old puppy to chemicals and additives he did not need. This was particularly true when we learned some of these things could damage his health.
A high source of protein — Our vet told us he recommended Merrick dog food as their Puppy Plate food was an extremely good source of protein.
This is due to their recipes being made from deboned turkey, with a much higher concentration of turkey in each can than most other ingredients.
Small servings — Our only minor complaint about Merrick puppy food is the servings tend to be quite small compared to some other brands. This sometimes left our puppy wanting more food a couple of hours later.
We solved this problem by mixing a handful of Merrick’s Real Chicken Sweet Potato dry food into the can of soft puppy food during his morning meal. This added bulk to the soft puppy food and kept our dog happy for hours longer.
